Panshet Dam, also known as Tanaji Sagar Dam, is an earthfill dam built on
the Ambi River, located near Pune in Maharashtra. It primarily serves
irrigation and water supply purposes for Pune city and its surrounding
areas. The dam is a popular tourist destination due to its scenic
surroundings and serves as a great spot for picnics, boating, and water
sports.
Panshet lake is famous picnic spot. This Lake is nested in the lap of
Sahyadri mountain ranges, and surrounded by lush green hills streaked
with numerous waterfalls.Panshet Lake is formed by the backwater of the
Panshet Dam.From here we can see high hills of Sahyadri mountains. Some
hills are 3800 feet high. Panshet is Chowpati of Pune. Daily
thousands of people visit this picnic, many people enjoy their Sunday
and holiday evenings here.Sinhgad fort, Khadakwasla Dam and Varasgaon
are the famous attractions near Panshet Lake.

History:

Panshet Dam was completed in 1959 to provide water for irrigation and to
meet the growing water demand of Pune city. The dam is remembered for the
tragic 1961 breach, which caused severe flooding in Pune, resulting in
significant loss of life and property. After repairs, the dam continues to
serve its purpose and has since become a popular spot for visitors seeking
scenic beauty and outdoor activities.

East' as the well-fortified structure atop a hill that had repeatedly
defied attackers. Shivaji built the fort in the 14th century. Chit
Darwaja, also known as Jit Darwaja is at the foothills near village
Pachad.
Khoob Ladha Buruj is a strategically located tower, from where any
attacker from both the side could be defended. Maha Darwaja is at a
distance of nearly a mile ahead after a difficult climb. This 350
years-old main entrance to the fort stands so majestically. Mena Darwaja
is a special entrance for the royal ladies and the queens.
