Bassein Beach is situated in Bassein, which is somewhere around 50 to 60 km from the Mumbai city of Maharashtra. The splendid beach has, infact, become one of the major attractions of the town today. Nalasopara is believed to have been Gautama Buddha's birthplace in a previous life. There are some beautiful churches in Bassei Bassein is in the peaceful location, which is 77 km away from Mumbai. It is closely similar with the India's sultry beach state of Goa. But here, crowd is a bit less and those who wish to enjoy peaceful environment must visit Basssein. |

As far as the history of Baseein town is concerned, it was used as a shipbuilding destination by the Portuguese, in the early seventeenth century. It was here only that they lost power to the Marathas, in the year 1739. The fort that was built by the Portuguese, at the time of their power over the beach, can still be seen today. Thus, apart from the beach, there are a number of other worth-visiting places at Bassein, including the fort and a number of marvelous churches.

In the 17th century Bassein was a ship-building center. In 1739, the Marathas defeated the Portuguese in Bassein. The ruins of a Portuguese fort still exist in the middle of palm groves and brushwood thickets. Nalasopara, believed to be Lord Buddha’s birthplace in a previous life, and the capital of Konkan territory from about 1500 BC to 1300AD is located at an approximate distance of 10 km from Bassein. Akoli hot springs and Vajreshwari temple are located at a driving distance of one hour from Bassein. With Agar of Bassein to its south and Agar of Agashi to its north, Bassein beach is an attractive tourist site. Bhimeshwar temple and the Sadguru Nityanand Maharaj Samadhi Mandir are additional tourist attractions of Bassein.
